History

1989

Cochin Minerals and Rutile Limited (CMRL) was incorporated as a Public Limited Company on 18th August 1989 for manufacture and export of Synthetic Rutile, its by-products and allied products. The factory is located in Cochin. The product was developed with indigenous technology and indigenous plant & machinery, to cater to hi-tech titanium downstream applications and the unit was registered as a 100% export oriented unit.

A trend towards increased acceptance of Ferric Chloride for drinking water treatment evolved since 1986 due to significant improvement in product economics, quality and availability. In 1989 itself, CMRL started working on new technology for commercial production of Ferric Chloride for drinking water production.

1993

The company’s shares were listed with the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).

Production started with a capacity of 10,000 MT of Synthetic Rutile and 12,000 MT of Ferric Chloride per annum

First export of Synthetic Rutile to Sumitomo Corporation, Japan and Ferric Chloride to Middle East

1997

Received the prestigious Export Excellence Award from the Prime Minister of India for export excellence.

1998

First Bulk Export Shipment of 5,000 MT of Synthetic Rutile executed to Ishihara Techno Corporation, Japan and shipped from Cochin Port.

1999

Production capacity of Synthetic Rutile increased to 18,000 MT and Ferric Chloride capacity increased to 15,000 MT per annum. Received Excellence Award from Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation Limited (KSDIC) in 1999.

2000

Received ISO 9002 certification for Manufacturing and Marketing.

2001, 2002 & 2004

Received Export Excellence Award from Government of India

2003

Production capacity of Synthetic Rutile increased to 30,000 MT in 2003

2005

Production capacity of Synthetic Rutile increased to 36,000 MT and Ferric Chloride Capacity incresed to 24,000 MT per annum in 2005.

2006

Received Award for Excellence from Kerala State Pollution Control Board.

2008

Production capacity of Synthetic Rutile increased to 45,000 MT in 2008

2009

CMRL Launched new product, viz. Iron Hydroxide (Cemox) as substitute for Iron Ore in Cement, Steel and Ceramic industries.

First Bulk Import Shipment of Ilmenite sourced from Africa.

Received Quality Crown Award in Gold category from Business Initiative Directions(BID), Madrid, Spain.

2011

Received Kerala State Industrial Safety Award consecutively for 3 years ending with 2011.

CMRL Ferric Chloride & Ferrous Chloride were certified as the first of its kind in Asia by NSF International, USA, the organization designated as a Collaborating Center by the World Health Organization (WHO) for both food safety and for drinking water safety & treatment.

2012

Government of Kerala declared CMRL as a MODEL ECO-FRIENDLY COMPANY since the company is utilising all its by-products for industrial and other applications through product innovation and marketing.

2013

Production capacity of Synthetic Rutile increased to 50,000 MT and Ferric Chloride Capacity incresed to 30,000 MT per Annum.

2015

Received Cochin Port Trust(CPT) Award in 2015 as the leading exporter from Cochin Port in terms of number of containers shipped.

2016

Award for Excellence from Kerala State Pollution Control Board consecutively for 11 years up to 2016.

2017

India’s Most Trusted Companies Award in 2017 from International Brand Consulting Corporation, USA

2018

Developed and introduced a new product, CMRL Rutoweld in 2018, for Welding Electrode industry with 6,000 MT/Annum capacity.

2019

Ferric Chloride Capacity incresed to 75,000 MT/Annum.

2022

Got ISO Certification, ISO 45001 : 2018 for Safety in work place

2023

Developed and introduced CMRL BF Protector as hearth protecting material in Blast furnaces in Integrated Steel Plants with Capacity of 8,000 MT/Annum.
