1989
Cochin Minerals and Rutile Limited (CMRL) was incorporated as a Public Limited Company on 18th August 1989 for manufacture and export of Synthetic Rutile, its by-products and allied products. The factory is located in Cochin. The product was developed with indigenous technology and indigenous plant & machinery, to cater to hi-tech titanium downstream applications and the unit was registered as a 100% export oriented unit.
A trend towards increased acceptance of Ferric Chloride for drinking water treatment evolved since 1986 due to significant improvement in product economics, quality and availability. In 1989 itself, CMRL started working on new technology for commercial production of Ferric Chloride for drinking water production.

The company’s shares were listed with the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).
Production started with a capacity of 10,000 MT of Synthetic Rutile and 12,000 MT of Ferric Chloride per annum
First export of Synthetic Rutile to Sumitomo Corporation, Japan and Ferric Chloride to Middle East

CMRL Launched new product, viz. Iron Hydroxide (Cemox) as substitute for Iron Ore in Cement, Steel and Ceramic industries.
First Bulk Import Shipment of Ilmenite sourced from Africa.
Received Quality Crown Award in Gold category from Business Initiative Directions(BID), Madrid, Spain.
2011
Received Kerala State Industrial Safety Award consecutively for 3 years ending with 2011.
CMRL Ferric Chloride & Ferrous Chloride were certified as the first of its kind in Asia by NSF International, USA, the organization designated as a Collaborating Center by the World Health Organization (WHO) for both food safety and for drinking water safety & treatment.
